DDC Valuation Theory Seminar: Definability of Valuations and Applications
Florian Pop (University of Pennsylvania)
Valuations are an essential tool in arithmetic algebraic geometry and algebraic geometry, e.g. studying solvability and/or decidability of diophantine problems, questions about birational invariants of algebraic varieties, etc. In this
introductory talk I will touch upon two aspects of definability of valuations, namely the first order definability, respectively the Galois theoretical definability, and mention some applications.
